Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Healthcare Administration
This certificate trains students who want to work in multiple areas in the healthcare administration field. Our program addresses the growing demand for knowledgeable healthcare administrators and managers.
Benefits: Healthcare administration is one of the fastest growing employment fields nationally and continues to grow in the Des Moines area as well. Students will gain knowledge of healthcare management principles from instructors, including healthcare leaders. Instructors will introduce students to a network of healthcare providers.
Skills: After students complete the program, they will be able to:
- Communicate effectively using both oral and written skills in the language and professional norms of healthcare settings, including knowledge of the 1996 federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Identify and analyze different healthcare systems and organizations in the United States.
- Recognize legal, moral and ethical issues that apply to healthcare organizations.
- Analyze, generate and present quantitative and statistical reports on current and future healthcare trends in the United States and with reference to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Quality and Convenience: The certificate program builds on the expertise of full-time and adjunct faculty members, including leaders in the healthcare field and legal counsel for a local hospital. The program is building a network of resources in the greater Des Moines area and the Midwest. The program quality builds on the accreditation history of Simpson, the work of trustees in healthcare and the status of the Department of Business Administration and Economics. Simpson College will schedule the program based on student need and will offer flexibility through hybrid (both online and face-to-face) eight-week courses.
Growth potential: Students will work closely with faculty members and advisors to choose assignments and projects, such as research projects and case studies, that assist them in their career development. Simpson College has a 90 percent graduation rate among its experienced adult learners.
Program Details: The healthcare administration certificate is a 28-credit program comprised of seven courses that students can complete in as few as 18 months.
