Certificate of Merit

The Certificate of Merit is designed to help students who have some musical training or background to improve their technique and musicianship.

Benefits: Students will gain a broader understanding of music and establish themselves as well-rounded musicians.

Skills: The core of the Certificate of Merit is private studio instruction, performance,  composition, music-in-education, contemporary improvisation, music for media or music technology, which NEC offers for all instruments including voice, composition, classical guitar, jazz and conducting. Students will also gain a firm understanding of music theory and history and of the technological resources and tools necessary for being a musician in the 21st century.

Quality and convenience: Through the convenience of online education, students can enhance their musical repertoire in a virtual setting.

Growth potential: Students receive expert instruction designed to improve their musicality, develop proper technique and expand their musical understanding.

Job opportunities: The Certificate of Merit prepares students for undergraduate or graduate degrees in music and can propel them forward in their music careers.

Program details: The Certificate of Merit (10 to 12 courses) offers students musical training that focuses on musicality, technique and theory. Full-time students can complete the certificate in one year or can choose a three-year track. Courses currently offered online can apply to the Certificate of Merit depending on concentration.
