Colorado Technical University

Bachelor of Science in Financial Planning

Colorado Tech Online is pleased to announce the addition of an industry-current Bachelor of Science degree program in Financial Planning. As more members of the large baby boom generation reach their peak years of retirement savings, personal investments are expected to increase and more people will seek the help of experts. Many companies also have replaced traditional pension plans with retirement savings programs, so more individuals are managing their own retirements than in the past, creating jobs for advisors. In addition, people are living longer and must plan to finance longer retirements.

In response to this growing need for knowledgeable, skilled professionals in the financial planning industry, this program focuses on teaching students how to demonstrate a working knowledge of the values, skills and techniques utilized in the personal financial planning process, apply the theories and strategies of personal financial planning as they relate to retirement and estate planning, demonstrate an understanding of the ever-changing financial services environment and develop awareness of the ethical and professional considerations in personal financial planning as they pertain to financial services professionals.

This career-focused Bachelor of Science degree program features courses including: Personal Financial Planning, Taxation in Financial Planning, Insurance Planning, Investment Planning, Estate Planning and many other topics. With the knowledge gained in this curriculum, our students can develop the necessary skills to enhance their ability to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP)* exam and consider financial planning as a career. This industry-current program also gives students the opportunity to earn three résumé-enhancing CTU Academic Certificates: Basics of Accounting and Finance, Income Tax and Financial Planning.
