Certificate in Financial Planning
The online Certificate in Financial Planning program is designed exclusively for working professionals, career changers, individuals who already have an MBA or other business related professional degree such as a JD, CFA or CPA, or those with significant experience in the financial planning field.
In order to be eligible for the Certificate program, students must have a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or equivalent coursework. Admissions criteria are streamlined for those students wishing to pursue the Certificate program.
The Certificate program consists of eight courses (three credits each) in the areas of investments, financial planning, insurance, retirement planning and estate planning to name a few. These courses are taught at a Master's Degree Level and students must successfully complete the eight financial planning courses to earn a Certificate in Financial Planning and be eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.
Online Learning at California Lutheran University
CLU online courses are flexible and convenient and are taught using a state-of-the-art program called Wimba Live Classroom which is specifically designed for instructors and students to interact in a virtual setting, display PowerPoint presentations and videos, participate in discussion boards and even write on a whiteboard. Additionally, students have the option to review live and archived classroom discussions, webinars and presentations specifically geared toward the field of finance. Virtual student lounges are available to all students in the financial planning program to which students can meet to discuss assignments, form study groups, tutoring services or develop assigned group projects.
Online classrooms at CLU usually consist of less than 20 students.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.
California Lutheran University does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and marks. CFP certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
