Averett University

Averett University

Founded in 1859, Averett has a long history of preparing women and men to serve as leaders in their professions and communities. Recognizing its heritage as a liberal arts institution, Averett places primary emphasis on undergraduate curricula by blending the liberal arts and sciences with professional preparation and graduate study.

Averett began as a school for young women at a time when educating women was not a popular idea. Continuing that spirit of innovation, Averett was among the first in Virginia to create an accelerated program for working adults. Today, it is among the select few universities in the nation to offer bachelor's degrees in aeronautics and equestrian studies. In an effort to extend its reach, Averett University has now decided to offer its first online degree program in criminal justice.
